Squiggle Doodle

The littlest has been really getting into drawing and doodling, to my great delight and excitement. Unlike his kor kor, who pretty much fell in love with all things art before the age of two, little D hadn’t shown much interest in drawing or colouring until very recently, having preferred the messy free expression afforded him by his finger paints instead. So this is quite an unexpected but welcome surprise!

When mumpreneur Karen of Squiggle Doodle and Mum’s Calling asked if we would be interested to review her Doodle Case Set a few weeks back, I knew Daryl would be really happy to finally have a pencil case all his own. Of course his kor kor was a little jealous that his brother got to have such a fun project to do, but since David already has a pencil case (plus TWO in storage that were Christmas gifts), I didn’t think he needed another one. True to his sweet nature, Daryl was happy to let kor kor doodle on half of his pencil case, as long as he got to dictate the theme. Which, since both boys are dino-lovers, was a win-win anyway. 😉

The Doodle Case Set includes a plain canvas pencil case and 7 water-resistant fabric markers, for little fingers to squiggle, doodle, draw and colour to their heart’s content. The markers are specially manufactured by Karen, not mass-produced, so you can be sure you are getting quality stuff! (Do note that the markers need to be capped tightly after use to prevent drying up.) Of course, the control-freak part of me wanted them to sketch their drawing in pencil and then draw, to prevent mistakes along the way. But both boys weren’t interested in an extra step and just went for it, free-form style!

And there you have it, Daryl’s dino pencil case!

Kor kor drew a Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus and Pteradactyl
Stegosaurus on the right (if you look carefully, you can see a few spikes on the back) and Diplodocus on the left. The Diplodocus is holding a gun to fight away bad guys.

Personally, I think this is a fun and engaging activity for children of all ages, and it’s affordable to boot at $9.90 a set. Get these as birthday party goodie bags, and get a 15% discount for every 10 sets purchased! Squiggle Doodle is all about wearable art, and besides this kit, they also sell customisable tees, rompers, tote bags, and even shoes! I’ll be getting the boys a pair of shoes each as a holiday activity surprise – Shhh…
